The Jerusalem Film Center was established in 1974 by Lia and Wim van Leer. Since that time it has served as a bastion of pluralism within a city full of divisions and conflicts. Through year-round programming and festivals, the Center provides a meeting ground and forum for respectful, serious, and fruitful dialogue between people of all faiths, ethnicities, and worldviews.

Some of its most notable activities include acting as the home to the Jerusalem Film Festival, the Israeli national film archive, the Jerusalem Cinematheque, an educational programme for children and youth and a variety of thematic activities such as Jewish, Arabic and Turkish Film Festivals, Cinema and Brain Week, and an International Writers Festival.
